The View from the Pulpit:

Dear People of God,

GRACE AND PEACE TO YOU ALL!

Time & Talents Sunday!

During the month of February, we will be celebrating TIME AND TALENTS SUNDAY this Sunday, February 26, at both Worship Services, as we examine our lives and God’s love for us and offer back to the Lord lives of service through the many ministries of Resurrection.  It may be hard to believe, but it takes about 1,000 people to run and staff the ministries of our congregation.  1,000??  That can’t be right!  We only have about 500 members (including children!).  But it’s true!  Begin thinking about it: Christian volunteers are needed to give of themselves, their abilities and their time to staff the Church Council, our Administrative Boards, to serve on the various committees and task forces, to teach Sunday School and adult Bible classes, to teach confirmation classes; to serve as Acolytes, Ushers, organist/keyboard, Sanctuary Choir members, Songs of Praise Worship Team instrumentalists and choir, Greeters, the Altar Guild, Cantors, Children’s Message, Communion Assistants, Worship Assistants, the Taping and Delivering Ministry, the Audio/Video/Live Streaming Systems Ministry, Counters, Sunday Fellowship Hosts, Friday Saints and office help; Prayer Chain; Prayer Shawl Ministry; Nursery Staff volunteers; New Member Orientation; Shut-in Visits; Helping Hands Ministry; Church Work Days; Recycling Ministry; volunteers to staff People Offering Resources Together (PORT) – the homeless and hungry ministry; Porch Visitors; staffing for the Red Cross Blood Drives; Sr. Moments; volunteers to help maintain the church computer systems; Vacation Bible School (or Bible Camp) Director, teachers and staff; the Sunday School – Resurrection School Christmas Service; the Porch Visitors and Bakers; staff for our youth groups; the Women in God’s Service, the Men’s Fellowship Breakfast; set-up and take-down of tables and chairs for the Adult classes in the Fellowship Hall; changing light bulbs all over the building; to help at the School – Child Care Center and School; Banner makers and repair; to assist with the Funeral Dinners; to bake, clean, sew, and repair; and the list goes on and on and on and on . . .

In fact, one thousand is actually not enough!  This means that most times the same members of the congregation are volunteering themselves and their time for not just one ministry, but several – all for the sake of the Lord and the expansion of His Kingdom!  How about YOU?  How involved are you in the ministry of Resurrection, as we seek to nurture and strengthen God’s people so that we can share His love with our community!

There is an old children’s song that says, “All God’s children got a place in the choir …” – and that means YOU and ME!  YOU have a place in the kingdom work of the Lord. How involved are you in the ministry of Resurrection?

Your Fellow Servant, in Christ Jesus Our Lord!
