Community Cook-Out at Resurrection Lutheran – Newport News, VA

The day after a hurricane passes is always a beautiful day. This was proven true Saturday, September 07 at Resurrection Lutheran in Newport News, VA.  Over 100 church and school members responded to the challenge to reach out to their immediate community by  welcoming guests and visitors to the church grounds for most of the day.

Free burgers and hot dogs, grilled with gusto, fresh watermelon slices, chips, cookies and beverages filled up hungry tummies.  Crazy inflatable obstacle courses, slides and bounce houses, giant Jenga, corn hole competitions and the ever-popular Dunk Tank kept the kids (and adults) entertained and energized.  Information tables highlighting Resurrection Pre-school & Child Care, Financial Peace, Carenet-Peninsula and THRIVE garnered the interest of guests and members alike.  Our local fire fighters brought their pump truck, and the Newport News police force also sent a representative who mingled with the crowd.

At least 50 newcomers and neighbors visited the church and new members got a chance to rub shoulders and become better acquainted with their church family.  To God be the glory; give thanks for the pleasant day!
