Saturday April 28th Resurrection Lutheran Church participated for the 2nd year in the Care Net Peninsula’s Walk 4 Life.  Our walkers enjoyed perfect weather for this event.  They did a short walk through Newport News Park.  Walkers collected donations and spread awareness with friends, family and even with us about what it is Care Net actually does.

In order to raise money and awareness so they may continue their services, which are offered at no cost to women in need, Care Net partners with local churches such as our own. If you recall, earlier this year we participated in a Baby Bottle campaign.  Our church raised $769.50 during our own campaign.  The other big fund raiser is their annual Walk 4 Life. This is a great campaign because it gives women a visual of just how many people care about them and the life of their unborn child.

If you would like to learn more or get involved on your own please reach out to Care Net at  http://www.cnpeninsula.org/.

They are constantly in need of volunteers.

Below is more information about Care Net

Care Net is local a non-profit on a mission to bring practical help and hope to women facing pregnancy decisions on the Virginia Peninsula. Their mission is simple, provide practical help and hope in Jesus to women facing difficult pregnancy decisions on the Virginia Peninsula.

In May 1985, a group of citizens concerned with the plight of women in crisis pregnancy situations met with the goal of organizing a life-affirming center to provide emotional, spiritual and practical help. As a result, Peninsula Crisis Pregnancy Center was opened on September 29, 1986. In 2005 they changed their name to Care Net Resource Pregnancy Centers, Inc. In 2013, Care Net relocated their main center to Jefferson Avenue, near City Center.

National Statistics:

  • Half of pregnancies in the United States are unexpected.
  • 43% of unexpected pregnancies end in abortion.
  • At current rates 1 in 3 women will have an abortion by age 45.
  • In the U.S more than 1,000,000 unborn children lose their lives to abortion each year. Right here on the Peninsula 1630 babies are lost to abortion.

A study revealed that 94% of women who have had an abortion say, knowing where they are in life today, they would not have chosen abortion.

In order to reduce these numbers, Care Net centers offer a safe place for women to explore their options and receive accurate medical information. Care Net exist to reach women and families facing unplanned pregnancy who are strongly considering abortion. They believe that when women receive practical help and hope through their services that they will make a life-affirming pregnancy decision.
