The View from the Pulpit:

Dear Fellow Members of Resurrection,

“10 Suggestions for Celebrating Advent, Christmas and New Year’s!”

  1. Attend worship services together as a FAMILY – and always bring along a friend, relative or neighbor.
  1. Make an Advent Wreath for the home and have a family devotion each evening, lighting the candles in remembrance of the coming of Christ.
  1. Have a “Birthday Party for Jesus” for your children’s friends.
  1. Bring an unchurched relative, friend, neighbor or co-worker to any of the Advent Services, Midweek Services and the Fellowship Dinners, and to the Christmas Eve and Day Services
  1. Help support someone in need by fixing a basket of food for a needy family and anonymously delivering it to their door.
  1. So something special for someone who might otherwise be forgotten at Christmas – i.e., a nursing home resident, a shut-in, a lonely person our single, one with family on the VA Peninsula, etc.); remember them with a gift or invite them to Christmas Dinner (be sure to invite them to Christmas Eve and Day Worship Services!)
  1. Sing Christmas Carols and Hymns together as a family – invite your friend and/or neighbors over to join in!
  1. Think of some gift to give especially in remembrance of our Lord Jesus: perhaps a needed item at Resurrection or for the School – Childcare; an item needed by a shut-in or a poor family or person, etc.
  1. Write a thank you letter or card to someone who made an impact on your life this past year (or years).
  1. BE SURE TO THANK GOD EVERYDAY FOR HIS MANY BLESSINGS IN YOUR LIFE!

MAKE THE CELEBRATION OF THE BIRTH OF THE SAVIOR EXTRA- SPECIAL THIS YEAR BY USING ONE (OR MORE!) OF THESE SUGGESTIONS!  May God bless us as we prepare for the great celebration of our Savior’s coming into this world!

Your Fellow Servant, in Christ our Lord,

Pastor Hank Hollar
