Unaware of Our Need for Rescue

Unaware of Our Need for Rescue

[Taken from Forgiven to Forgive, Six Weeks of Daily Devotions, by Ambassadors of Reconciliation]

Romans 5:6-11

When a young child first begins to walk, the child’s parents watch carefully where he or she goes. Parents constantly are following and guiding their child. Their eyes are always open for potential hurts that the child could experience. Parents remain vigilant for the child’s well-being. Ironically, the child does not realize the need for protection.

As unbelieving sinners, we did not know we were in danger of eternal damnation. We could not recognize we were in trouble. We were stumbling along in our sinful condition. We were headed on a path of destruction.

Long before we realized we were in need of rescue and salvation, God saved us. He sent forth his Son to protect us from our sinful condition and to save us from eternal death and destruction. We didn’t even know that we were in danger. But God was vigilant for us. He didn’t wait for us to come begging for mercy. Yet while we were still weak, God sent forth his Son to redeem us and free us from our peril.

Unaware of our need for rescue, God reconciled us to him through his Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Therefore, peace is ours.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your watchful eye, seeing my sinful condition and rescuing me through your Son. You saved me from the path of sin, death, and hell. I offer you my gratitude and praise for the rescue you have accomplished for me and the salvation I possess in Christ. In the name of the Lord Jesus I pray. Amen.
