Porch Visitor Ministry
Mission Statement: To conduct visits to worship service visitors of Resurrection Lutheran Church and School (RLC&S) and provide them with information/answer any questions they may have about the ministry opportunities at RLC&S.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Jesus directs us to reach out and Guests have already taken the first step by reaching out to us
    • to fill a void in their life
    • desire to know Jesus
    • are uncomfortable with their current church
    • many other personal reasons
  2. Provide follow up visits as visitation of worship guests are the most effective method of evangelistic church growth.
  3. Visitation information provided below:
    1. Gain information from Friendship Pad.
    2. Transfer guest information to card system.
    3. Attach local map with directions for visit.
    4. Sort into area code.
    5. Assign (3 to 4) cards to each team
    6. Two teams are assigned in advance each week. (this meets the need to cover 4 to 6 individual guests that attend each week.
    7. Conduct teams visit and complete data on the back of the card and return to church by Friday of the same week.
    8. Complete visits by Wednesday, but we must complete by Friday.
  4. Suggestions for visit
    1. Remember that you are Christians first and Lutherans second.
    2. Do not argue at any time.
    3. Teams should visit between 7:00 - 8:00 to 8:30 maximum.
    4. Visitations are generally made unannounced.
    5. Keep visits short (10 - 15 minutes).
    6. Say a prayer before starting out.
    7. Introduce yourselves and thank them for visiting Resurrection.
    8. Keep initial conversation light.
    9. Ask such things as:
      • How they found the church.
      • If they are associated with another church.
      • If there are any unbaptized children or adults.
      • Whatever is comfortable, but do not grill.
    10. Leave a copy of the current newsletter, the “Portals of Prayer” as introduction to Resurrection (when available).
    11. Remember to invite them back.
  5. If no one is at home (this is still a first contact), our current practice is:
    1. Leave a copy of the newsletter and a copy of “Portals of Prayer”.
    2. Write a note thanking them for worshipping with us and invite them back - Leave your phone number.
  6. Each team will be given a key to the front door and to the Sunday School Superintendent office where the card system is stored.
