RLC 60th Anniversary Summary


Lift High the Name of Jesus was the theme and focus of Resurrection Lutheran’s 60th Anniversary celebration.  Every other month during the 2016 calendar year, a special worship, fellowship gathering or service project was planned to gather the members of our faith community together to do just that, and to offer our thanks and praise to the Lord.

  • February – Celebratory Anniversary Worship Service: featuring guest proclaimer, SED District President, the Rev. John Denninger. A new theme-related hymn was taught to the congregation and new a festival banner adorned the wall of the church sanctuary.  A catered luncheon followed with long time members Olga Carpenter and Dinah Balthus reminiscing and encouraging RLC members – to rely on the foundation of faith in God’s Word, and move forward in the expression of our shared Christian faith.

  • April – “Love Your Church” Work Party: over 50 tasks were accomplished by the many RLC&S members who cleaned, weeded, repaired and groomed the church & school building and grounds. The next day the congregation gathered in a sparkling Fellowship Hall to enjoy a BBQ Picnic – welcoming new members and becoming better acquainted with fellow believers.

  • June – Day & Sunday School Fine Arts Festival: artwork done by Resurrection Day and Sunday School children and youth was displayed and an Old- Fashioned Ice Cream Social was enjoyed by all. Special music provided by the Sunday School Youth Choir, Day School Handbell Choir and Ouida Archinal and Friends’ Hammer Dulcimer Group.

 

 

 

 

 

  • September – Rally Day Weekend: kicking off the weekend was a bonfire and camp-out where families and friends of our Jr. & Sr. LYFR youth gathered in Newport News Campground. Sunday morning worship was held in NN Park Picnic shelter with a potluck picnic afterward.

  • November – P.O.R.T. Week – our final big service event, where many of our RLC members volunteered their time and service to care for our homeless brothers and sisters and their families.

We give thanks to God for the many opportunities He gives us to share His gifts, His love and His Word with each other and our community!  Let’s continue to lift high His holy name!
