SENIOR MOMENTS! Calling all who are “young at heart!”  Please join us at Resurrection’s monthly social gathering for seniors at Steve’s Steak House, 11847 Jefferson Ave., Newport News, (at the corner of City Center Blvd. & Jefferson Ave) at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21st.    A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board near the sanctuary entrance.  (Any questions, please contact Phil)

PENINSULA RESCUE MISSION continues to share Hope, making a difference for the Lord!  You can support this ministry with donations of nonperishable food and household supplies that you might use in your own home.  In May, they are specifically requesting donations of deodorant and shower shoes.  Please place your donation in the Peninsula Rescue Mission bin in the church office lobby.

RESURRECTION LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL (RLCS) BIBLE CAMP 2017:  Yes, you guessed it… We are doing it again!!!  RLCS Bible Camp 2.0 – Monday, July 31st thru Wednesday, August 2nd.

This year’s theme will spotlight the story of Joseph in the Old Testament.  Who is Joseph and what is his story?  How did god influence his life and what lessons can be learned from his story?

What is Bible Camp, you ask?

  • (i) Bible camp is simply, three evenings of fun and learning. The program will be designed to provide quality Christian education in a relaxed and nurturing environment.
  • (ii) Bible camp will be open to the general public as well as to members of RLCS. The program is scheduled to run three hours per night (6:00PM to 9:00PM), dinner and refreshments will be provided to all participants.
  • (iii) This year’s Bible Camp will take a look at Joseph from the Old Testament. Journey with us, as we try to answer some of life’s perplexing questions:
  • (iv) Discover if/how joseph remained faithful to God throughout difficult experiences. Learn the power of forgiveness and compassion and understanding that God is always in control.

WE BID FAREWELL to long-time and faithful member Shirley, who is moving this week to Charlotte, NC to be closer to her son and grand-children.  We pray God’s blessings on Shirley as she moves, and that she is able to connect to a family of believers so she can continue her worship and service to the Lord.

TENDING THE FLAME – OUTREACH CONFERENCE will gather August 4-5 at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings, Glen Allen (Richmond) VA.  (room rate is $124 per night).  The theme is “In Real Life” – in real life, how do we share Jesus?  What are the stories we share as we tell other about Jesus the Savior?  Dr. Tony Cook of Lutheran Hour Ministries will be the Guest Speaker, as he helps us explore and understand the language of Millennials and Postmoderns, and teach us how to share the Gospel through everyday relationships.  The cost to register is $85 until June 1, and $100 through June 2-July 16.  To register, visit the SED Website: sed@se.lcms.org  Programs are also provided for children, from infant to teens.

THE BI-ANNUAL RESURRECTION VOTERS MEETING will be held Sunday, June 4th, during the Sunday School Hour. This meeting will include reports from all of Resurrection’s Boards and Committees and the election of officers for 2017-2018. Resurrection is YOUR congregation … please make every effort to attend this Voters Meeting!
