SENIOR MOMENTS!  Calling all who are “young at heart!”  Please join us at Resurrection’s monthly social gathering for seniors, Room 120, TODAY, Sunday, September 17th, at 3:00 p.m. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board near the sanctuary entrance. Please bring a hors d’œuvres to share. The Senior Moments Group will also be putting together boxes for the Christmas Child Program.   (Phil)

PORTALS OF PRAYER: The October–December edition of this excellent devotional booklet is available at the Ushers’ Desk in the narthex.  Please ask an Usher for a copy as you leave this morning.  Why not take two copies and share one with a friend!

RESURRECTION LUTHERAN SCHOOL is currently enrolling for the 2017 – 2018 school year.  Do you know of someone looking for preschool thru first grade, or daycare options?  Classes start for 2 ½ year old to first grade on September 5thNewport News Public schools from Deer Park, Saunders, Hilton, and Watkins have bus stops at Resurrection.  Please tell your friends and neighbors!

ARE YOU GROWING IN THE WORD IN A BIBLE STUDYResurrection offers a multitude of corporate Bible and Topical studies, both on Sunday mornings and during the week.  Please check out page 4 of this Bulletin, and Come Grow with Us as we dig into God’s Word!

(People Offering Resources Together) SEASON (a ministry to the homeless and hungry on the Peninsula); men’s sweaters – all sizes, hats, gloves, shoes/boots, jeans and thick trousers/slacks, thick jackets, deodorant and toothpaste and toothbrushes.  Place your donations in the PORT Box in the church office lobby.  THANK YOU!

RESURRECTION is also collecting GIFT CARDS (Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart) to help with victims as they return to get supplies and rebuild.  You can order these GIFT CARDS through the Lutheran Youth Fellowship. 

SUPPORT YOUR LYFR (LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP OF RESURRECTION) WHILE YOU SHOP: Purchase gift cards used for gas, groceries, restaurants, movies, iTunes, amazon.com, etc. for full face value and LYFR can earn up to 15% on each purchase.  This directly supports the National Youth Gathering & other youth activities.  Contact Mary or a LYFR to place an order.  Orders for the month of September need to be submitted by September 24th. SEEKING A VOLUNTEER TO DISTRIBUTE PRAYER SHAWLS WHEN REQUESTED: This wonderful ministry is a great “encourager” and outreach to many in our community.  If you can assist, please call the Church Office: 596-5808 or email: news@rlcnn.org.                                   

PENINSULA RESCUE MISSION continues to share Hope, making a difference for the Lord!  You can support this ministry with donations of nonperishable food and household supplies that you might use in your own home.  In September, they are specifically requesting donations of men’s deodorant and shaving cream.  Please place your donation in the Peninsula Rescue Mission bin in the church office lobby.

RESURRECTION & YOUTH GROUP BONFIRE & OVERNIGHT CAMPINGSaturday, 7:00pm, September 30th:  All RLCS family, friends, and especially our LYFR and Confirmation youth and families are invited to an evening at Newport News Campground, Youth Group Site #1.  A Bonfire, S’more making, Games, Snacks, Worship and Fun are in store for all who come.  Bring your camp chairs, roasting forks, and bug spray. Overnight camping is available for youth and chaperones only.

WORSHIP AND PICNIC AT THE PARK 2017 begins at 11:00 am in Newport News Park, Shelter #19.  Bring a chair to sit on (or a blanket) for worship.  Bring your own beverages and side dish and dessert to share. Fried chicken, water, and paper products will be provided. Enjoy Children’s games, Volleyball, and Lawn games until 2:30 pm.  A signup sheet to help with the picnic and games is posted in the Fellowship Hall. Early (8:00) Traditional Worship Service will be held at the church – but no Sunday School. Should inclement weather occur, please check Resurrection’s website www.rlcnn.org, for further instructions. .

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Anyone up for some flapjacks? The Sr. Lutheran Youth Fellowship will be hosting a pancake breakfast, Sunday, September 24th after the Early Service (around 9:00 AM).  Join us for pancakes, sausage, eggs, and beverages.  Donations will be accepted if you are so led.

WOMEN IN GOD’S SERVICE (WIGS) need your full mite boxes to be turned in. Please remember to bring them next Sunday and empty them in the Big Mite box on the table in the church hallway across from the name tags.  What are mites?  They are your loose change found in the couch cushions or pants pockets during laundry or the bottom of your purse.  We gather these “mites” and send them to our district and they go towards Lutheran Women’s Missions League chosen Grant recipients.   RLC & S was once a recipient as we received a grant to put in windows in our classroom doors.

WOMEN IN GOD’S SERVICE (WIGS) SILENT AUCTION will be held in conjunction with a Spaghetti dinner on Sunday, October 22nd. We will be taking donations (items and services), so please contact Betty.

SAVE THE DATE: The WIGS (Women in God’s Service) are sponsoring a Spaghetti dinner on Sunday, October 22nd.  All monies raised will go toward the WIGS Christmas Families.

RESURRECTION’S CONFIRMATION INSTRUCTION will begin TODAY, Sunday, September 17, following the Late Service (at 12:30 pm) in the Fellowship Hall.  All 7th & 8th graders (and any other interested older youth) are encouraged to attend!  Parents are welcome to sit in the class.
