Our mission is to Love and Obey the Savior, Equip believers for Ministry and Share the Good News of Jesus.

Our Mission

January 14, 2018

The flowers at the altar are provided by the Members of Resurrection.

THE NEW 2018 FLOWER CHART IS NOW AVAILABLE: Please consider a gift to the Altar flower Ministry. Choose a date to honor or remember a special occasion. Your gift will be acknowledged in the Announcements in the Sunday Bulletin. The cost is $25.00 per bouquet.  Make your check payable to Resurrection Lutheran Church and put it in a Flower Fund envelope and then in the box outside the church office door.  You may pick up your flowers after the Late Service, but please: return the white cup to the sacristy the next Sunday.  If flowers are not picked up by Tuesday morning they will be delivered to a homebound member.

SPIRITUAL CONVERSATIONS IN A DIGITAL AGE is a seminar offered at King of Glory, Williamsburg, on January 20, 2018, between 10 am-3:30 pm.  This gathering, especially for leaders, but open to all congregational members, will emphasize how Christian approaches to evangelism /outreach have changed in the last 25 years – and will, through presentation and discussion, seek to make application as to how we as individuals and congregations do Spiritual Conversations in the 21st Century.  For more information or to register visit LHM.org/BARNA2018.

PLEASE – YOUR HELP IS NEEDEDDrinks and food should be consumed in the Fellowship Hall ONLY, and not taken to other parts of the building.  PARENTS: please help your children understand this, as the Youth Room has been particularly affected!  Also, should a mess be made, PLEASE CLEAN IT UP SO OTHERS DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT!  Thank you for your cooperation!

SENIOR MOMENTS!  Are you “of a certain age” yet?  Please join us, Resurrection’s monthly social gathering for seniors, for an “Early Bird” dinner at Steve’s Steak House, 11847 Jefferson Ave., Newport News (at the corner of City Center Blvd. & Jefferson Ave) at 3:00 p.m., next Sunday, January 21st. A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board near the sanctuary entrance.  (Phil)

PENINSULA RESCUE MISSION continues to share Hope, making a difference for the Lord!  You can support this ministry with donations of nonperishable food and household supplies that you might use in your own home.  In January they are specifically requesting donations of men’s belts, socks and underwear in all sizes.  Please place your donation in the Peninsula Rescue Mission bin in the church office lobby.

MATURE OR IMMATURE ADULTS NEEDED to fill vacancies on Sunday Morning from 9:30-10:30 am.  Must be alive and have open or closed mind (preferably open).  Coffee, tea and goodies will be waiting for you.  Call 596.5808 or report to one of Resurrection’s Adult Education Classes this Sunday at 9:30 am!

DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA OR SUGGESTION TO SHARE?  Resurrection’s SUGGESTION BOX is located in the Office Lobby, and always awaits your idea or suggestion.  Special forms are available for you to use – and your insights are shared with our church leadership!

IN HONOR OF THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE SUNDAY, next Sunday January 21st, Shantelle Giles, with CareNet Peninsula– the pregnancy resource center in Newport News, will be here to speak during each service about the mission of CareNet and the services they provide to families on the peninsula.  The Share Board will be hosting a 3 week baby bottle campaign in support of CareNet as well.  Stay tuned for more info!  If you have questions, please contact Nicole.

LINK is in need of the following for the P.O.R.T. (People Offering Resources Together) SEASON (a ministry to the homeless and hungry on the Peninsula); men’s sweaters – all sizes, hats, gloves, shoes/boots, jeans and thick trousers/slacks, thick jackets, deodorant and toothpaste and toothbrushes.  Place your donations in the PORT Box in the church office lobby.  THANK YOU!

HOSPITALIZED?  LONG-TERM ILLNESS?  NEW SHUT-IN?  If you know of member who is, or will be, hospitalized, has a new baby, a death in the family, or a long-term illness, please notify the church office at 596.5808, or news@rlcnn.org.  This will enable the pastor or the Elders to visit them, share a card, add their needs to the Prayer Insert and the Prayer Chain, and mention them in the Prayers of the Church at the next worship service.  PLEASE NOTE: hospitals and other facilities do not notify the church office of a person’s stay unless they are specifically asked to do so because of the federal privacy laws.

A GREAT OUTREACH TOOL: SHARE A PRAYER SHAWL WITH SOMEONE IN NEED OF PRAYER AND HOPE: Don’t hesitate to see or contact Christy if you would like to share a PRAYER SHAWL with someone.  It is a wonderful way of offering God’s promise of hope and sharing His love!  It also means that YOU will keep this person in your prayers!

  1. Again: “Why are the penitential canons long since in actual fact and through disuse abrogated and dead, now satisfied by the granting of indulgences, as though they were still alive and in force?
  2. Again: Why does not the pope, whose wealth is today greater than the riches of the richest, build

just this one church of St. Peter with his own money, rather than with the money of the poor.”

  1. Again: “What is it that the pope remits, and what participation does he grant to those who, by perfect contrition, have a right to full remission and participation?”

+    Chip & Mary, Mike & Nancy, Celia, Ann & Mary, Christy, and Sheri, whose dedicated and loving work with the youth of Resurrection is helping set a great example for them for the future!

Keep them in your prayers – send them a card or letter – give them a phone call – visit with them.
