SENIOR MOMENTS! Calling all who are “young at heart!”  Please join us at Resurrection’s monthly social gathering for seniors at Steve’s Steak House, 11847 Jefferson Ave., Newport News, (at the corner of City Center Blvd. & Jefferson Ave) at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21st.    A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board near the sanctuary entrance.  (Any questions, please contact Phil)

DISASTER HELP NEEDED: Resurrection is encouraging gifts to help the victims of the floods, and the easiest way to give is online by going to Southeastern District, LCMS  or send your gift to Southeastern District, 6315 Grovedale Drive, Alexandria, VA  22310Volunteer help is also needed.  Contact the SED office @ http://se.lcms.org/hurricane-florence-recoveryRESURRECTION WILL ALSO BE COLLECTING GIFT CARDS (Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart) to help with victims as they return to get supplies and to rebuild.  You can order these GIFT CARDS through the Lutheran Youth Fellowship.  Contact Mary for more information . SUPPORT YOUR LYFR (LUTHERAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP OF RESURRECTION) WHILE YOU SHOP: Purchase gift cards used for gas, groceries, restaurants, movies, iTunes, amazon.com, etc. for full face value and LYFR can earn up to 15% on each purchase.  This directly supports the National Youth Gathering & other youth activities.

BOARD OF OUTREACH MINISTRY is overseeing Resurrection’s Thanksgiving Food Baskets ministry for families in need in our community.  Each week we will be collecting different food items. (please refer to the insert in today’s bulletin)  During each service you will have the opportunity to bring your items forward and place your donations in baskets at the altar as a special offering.  The goal is to help as many families as possible; so please help us make this Thanksgiving special for these deserving families. Next week’s offerings are canned vegetables.

BOOKS!  BOOKS!  BOOKS! Pastor Hank is thinning out his library, and many books must go!  Help your-self to the free books located in the Church Office Lobby.  If you wish to make a donation, please give it to Resurrection (but a donation is not required!).

THE BOXES FOR “OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD” ARE HERE FOR US TO FILL, as we support this outstanding mission outreach of Samaritan’s Purse!  Our Christmas boxes are shared with children around the world, as they hear the Good News of God’s love through the birth and life of His Son and our Savior, Jesus.  Boxes can be picked up in the Narthex and Fellowship Hall.  Financial support is also needed, so please contact Phil for more information. Please have your filled boxes turned in no later than Sunday, November 11!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Anyone up for some flapjacks? The youth will be hosting a pancake breakfast next Sunday, October 28th after the Early Service.  Join us for pancakes, sausage, eggs and beverages.  Donations will be accepted if you are so led.

PENINSULA RESCUE MISSION continues to share Hope, making a difference for the Lord!  You can support this ministry with donations of nonperishable food and household supplies that you might use in your own home.  In October, they are specifically requesting donations of flour and sugar. Please place your donation in the Peninsula Rescue Mission bin in the church office lobby.

LINK is in need of the following for the upcoming P.O.R.T. (People Offering Resources Together) SEASON (a ministry to the homeless and hungry on the Peninsula); men’s sweaters – all sizes, hats, gloves, shoes/boots, jeans and thick trousers/slacks, thick jackets, deodorant and toothpaste and toothbrushes.  Place your donations in the PORT Box in the church office lobby.  THANK YOU!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO RECEIVE YOUR OWN COPY OF LUTHERAN WITNESS? The church receives copies for your enjoyment that are available in the church office lobby.  If you would like a personal copy sent to your home, please let the church office know.  The cost is $12.95 per year.

OCTOBER IS “CLERGY APPRECIATION MONTH”­and Pastor Hank desires more than anything your PRAYERS (1) for him as he concludes his ministry among the saints at Resurrection; (2) for Resurrection, that God would continue to guide and bless His people here; and (3) for courage and strength to face the future unafraid and secure in God’s love, mercy and grace! Feed your Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Mite Box ten cents for every year your pastor has been a minister to your congregation. (BTW: IT’S 26 YEARS!)

PORT (People Offering Resources Together) is coming November 14th – 21stThe Peninsula’s multi-congregational outreach organization People Offering Resources Together (a ministry of L.I.N.K) finds venues for winter shelters for the homeless. Resurrection will open its doors the week of November 14th – 21st and, with the help of other churches, we feed those in need a hot dinner and give them a warm, safe place to sleep; followed by a hot breakfast. Resurrection will be hosting Nov. 14th and 20th.
